After six years as a special adviser and then senior adviser to Number 10, Victoria McKenzie Gould transitioned from politics into government affairs. She has served as group government affairs director at Tesco, corporate affairs director at Britvic and since 2019 has been director of corporate communications at Marks & Spencer. Although M&S has suffered during the pandemic and was forced to announce the closure of 30 stores over the next decade, its partnership with Ocado has been boosting food sales. The company remains an essential ‘bellwether’ of British retail – an identity reinforced by the new quarterly Family Matters Index, launched in June 2021 in a bid to deliver products and services that are relevant to families. McKenzie-Gould said: ‘we want to stay close to families so we can deliver our promise of trusted value on the things that matter to them most’.
