Michael Mainelli leads a rare think tank which sits between the financial and political worlds. He founded Z/Yen in 1994 and has been its executive chairman since 1995, after stints at Petroconsultants, Accenture and BDO in the 1970s and 1980s. Mainelli became a corporate development director at the MoD in 1995 and has never let his political passions be silent, working as a consultant for the LSE, the London Waterways Commission and Gresham College, where he became an emeritus professor in 2020. Mainelli became an alderman within the City of London in 2013 and was elected Sheriff of the City of London in September 2019. Z/Yen describes itself as aiming to “promote societal advance through better finance and technology”.
