Snapshot
Anna McMorrin has been the Labour MP for Cardiff North since 2017 and a committed Remain campaigner. Describing the initial referendum as “not based on fact”, McMorrin resigned her position as parliamentary private secretary to Barry Gardiner MP, shadow secretary of state for international trade, in 2018 in order to vote for an amendment to the EU Withdrawal Bill committing the UK to seeking membership of the European Economic Area after Brexit. With a background as a campaigns and communications director for Friends of the Earth, McMorrin was appointed a specialist advisor to the Welsh government in 2008. One of her first actions as an MP was to challenge Tesco over job cuts in Wales. She currently holds positions on the Welsh affairs select committee and environmental audit committee, and as such can regularly be seen raising concerns on issues such as regional funding and climate change. A member of the GMB and Unison unions, McMorrin is a member of the Co-operative Party, as well as LGBT Labour and the Labour Women’s Network. She lives in Cardiff with former Welsh government minister, Alun Davies.
