Stuart Anderson was elected as the Conservative MP for Wolverhampton South West in the 2019 general election, taking the seat from Labour’s Eleanor Smith on a 4.6 per cent swing. Anderson followed in his father’s footsteps, leaving school at 17 to join the Army, but just days before his 18th birthday, he was shot in the foot in a training exercise. The injury threatened to end his military career, and he was told he would never walk unaided again, but just 10 months later he was declared fit to serve, joining the Royal Green Jackets and serving around the world in countries including Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo and Iran. After finishing his service, he worked globally as a bodyguard, including for a former Qatari prime minister. Returning to the UK, he founded several businesses in the security industry, including eTravelSafety, which provides travel risk management software. Anderson only joined the Conservative Party in 2016 was elected as a county councillor the following year. He is a member of the Defence Committee. Anderson has repeatedly supported a no-deal Brexit and has criticised the imposition of strict lockdown measures on his constituency during Covid-19.
