Julie Marson was born in Barking and educated at a local grammar school and then at the University of Cambridge, where she read modern history. Since graduating, she has accumulated a comprehensive portfolio of positions in business and finance including at NatWest, RBS and the RAC. She has also been a Thanet councillor, and was a magistrate for nine years. Marson unsuccessfully contested the 2014 European Parliament election as a South East candidate, and stood in Dagenham and Rainham in both the 2015 and 2017 General Elections. She is a passionate Brexiteer and was on the board of “Women for Britain” during the 2016 referendum on European Union membership. Eventually, she was elected in a Remain constituency. Her current majority is 19,620. In 2020, she called for a ban on so-called wet markets. Marson has called for LGBT+ conversion therapy to be banned, labelling it “morally and medically wrong.” She also pledged her support to improving the lives of trans people in society. She is the owner of a cockapoo named “Boris”.
