Scott Mann
Member of Parliament for North Cornwall14752
Majority
Conservative
Snapshot
Scott Mann has focused on delivering staunch advocacy for his constituency’s sizeable industries in the fishing, farming and tourism sectors. The first Conservative to represent the seat since 1992, Mann’s focus on these key issues has informed much of his criticism of the EU, with Mann calling for Britain’s “release” from “captivity” that had led to the “heinous” treatment of Cornwall’s fishermen under the Common Fisheries Policy. Currently a member of the human rights committee, Mann has also been a member of the environmental audit committee and a vice-chairman of the APPG on WASPI among other roles. He was previously a councillor on Cornwall Council from 2009 to 2016. A staunch Brexiter, Mann resigned from his role as PPS to the Treasury in 2018 in protest at what he believed to be a “watered down” Brexit plan – not the first time Mann has quit a role in protest: in 2012, he resigned as deputy leader of the Conservative group on Cornwall Council following proposals to spend £16m of public money to fund the building of a sports stadium. His describes his political inspirations as being willing to “stick themselves on the line” for their beliefs.
