Claire Maugham was appointed communications director at Houses of Parliament Restoration and Renewal in September 2020 – a programme to restore the palace of Westminster, which is in dire need of repair. The project is the biggest and most complex restoration ever undertaken in the UK; the Palace is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a Grade 1 listed building and is regarded as the world’s finest example of early Gothic Revival architecture. Suitably, Maugham has substantial experience in project management and public relations in the public and private sectors. She has been director for the Centre for Cities, media director at the Equal Opportunities Commission, and communications manager and speechwriter to the minister for Europe at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
