In 2020, Doug Gurr became museum director of the National History Museum. In this role, he has already committed the museum to carbon neutrality by 2035. Starting his career teaching mathematics and computing at Aarhus University in Denmark, Gurr spent three years working in the civil service before joining the consulting giant McKinsey. He was a partner at UK Retail practice, founded Blueheath, the stockless wholesaler and has been a non-executive Director at DWP. He is the Country Manager of Amazon UK. In 2017, in comments to the Evening Standard, Gurr praised the “democratisation” of Amazon, as it helps authors self-publish.
