Snapshot

Natalie Elphicke has been the Conservative MP for Dover since 2019 when her husband, Charlie Elphicke, stood down from the position. Following a tumultuous few years during which Charlie Elphicke (MP since 2010) had the Conservative whip withdrawn and reinstated several times, before he was sentenced to two years in prison for sexual assault, Natalie took up the mantle bringing her experience in housing to the table. Natalie Elphicke is a qualified lawyer and has worked in finance, as well as authoring a 2010 report into housing for Conservative thinktank Policy Exchange and leading the Conservative Party Forum when it launched in 2011. She has long been involved in politics, narrowly losing out to Matt Hancock for selection as the candidate for West Suffolk just before the 2010 general election. Elphicke has been CEO of the Housing and Finance Institute, set up by the Cameron-Clegg coalition, and in 2017 led a report into more effective methods for the provision of infrastructure (including amenities, broadband and roads) in proposals for housing development. In February 2020, she became parliamentary private secretary at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
