Snapshot
Born and raised in Stoke-on-Trent, Jack Brereton read politics and international relations at Keele University, graduating in 2012 – two years after he first ran for Stoke-on-Trent city council. Brereton was elected as a councillor in 2011 and re-elected in 2015, after which, he became the council cabinet member for regeneration, heritage and transport. After unsuccessfully contesting a by-election in Stoke-on-Trent Central in 2017, Brereton was elected as MP for Stoke-on-Trent South at the 2017 General election – he was 26, making him the youngest Conservative MP from the 2017 intake. Brereton has sat on the transport committee and the work and pensions committee. He currently is a member of both the public accounts commission and the procedure committee. Brereton is treasurer of the APPG for ceramics and has raised concerns about the struggle of the industry with retail closures due to Covid-19. In November 2020, Brereton asked the Chancellor “to look at what more support can be given to those industries where order books have severely diminished”.
