Snapshot

Saqib Bhatti, the Conservative member for Meriden since the 2019 general election, has strong connections to his home city of Birmingham. Having been raised in the area and educated at King Edward VI School, Edgbaston, Bhatti then attended LSE to study law before training as an accountant at Deloitte. He returned to the second city as a director to his family’s accountancy firm. He has been prominently involved in the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce as president and honorary chairman, and became President of the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce in 2018. He was a vigorous campaigner for Leave in the EU referendum, having been a member of the National Board for Vote Leave as well as joint Secretary General for Muslims for Britain. He loves travelling and sport. Bhatti tweets frequently about issues relating to government policy and the status of Britain’s South Asian community. He is also a member of the Conservative Environment Network, which is lobbying government in the run-up to next year’s UN climate conference in Glasgow. Bhatti’s current majority in Meriden is a comfortable 22,836.
