Aaron Bell was elected as the Conservative MP for Newcastle-under-Lyme at the 2019 general election, becoming the first of his party to represent the area since 1885. Bell unseated Labour’s Paul Farrelly, who had held the seat for 18 years, earning a sizeable majority of 7,446. Educated at St John’s College, Oxford, Bell is notable for having participated in a number of quiz shows. His team was the runner up in the 2001 series of University Challenge. He won the Krypton Factor in 2009, Only Connect in 2010, and earned £25,000 on Deal or No Deal. Bell has lived in Staffordshire since 2006 when he took a job with bet365 as a software architect and development manager. He is the co-owner of fintech startup DivideBuy. He supported Brexit in the 2016 referendum, in line with his constituency. Since entering parliament, Bell has campaigned particularly on COVID recovery policies, the environment and the government’s feted “levelling up” agenda. Bell joined the Conservatives in 2012 and ran unsuccessfully in 2017 for the seat of Don Valley in Yorkshire. He is married with three children.
