Former secondary school teacher Mike Crowhurst followed the well-worn path between the think tank the New Schools Network to a career in Spadding. He was education policy adviser to Theresa May before moving to work for Oliver Dowden at the Cabinet Office when Johnson became prime minister. A little- known fact about Crowhurst is that he was an audience member who asked a question at the BBC’s first prime ministerial debate programme in 2010, leading then shadow education secretary Michael Gove to ask to speak to Crowhurt after the debate regarding his views on school reform.
