Daniel El-Gamry

10 Downing Street

Special adviser

A true character of Spadding armed with a wry, knowing smile and healthy stock of frequently withering one-liners, half- Egyptian, half-Irish El-Gamry is the major general in Number Ten’s so-called “war on woke”. As well as advising Johnson, he works closely with equalities minister Kemi Badenoch, herself – like El-Gamry– no shrinking violet. A favourite of Number Ten policy unit head Munira Mirza, El-Gamry was brought into Downing Street after working at MHCLG. He earned his stripes as a desk officer in the Conservative Research Department, quitting his job to work, unpaid, on Boris’s leadership campaign, a risk that has paid off handsomely.
