Chris Ward

Office of the Leader of the Opposition

Deputy chief of staff

Now deputy chief of staff to Sir Keir Starmer, Ward is the Labour leader’s longest-serving aide, having been with him since October 2016. Ward was hailed as one of the brains of his operation when Starmer was shadow Brexit secretary and is seen as the embodiment of Starmerism. Now, Ward exerts huge influence over the shadow cabinet and is seen as on the right of the Labour Party. Previously deputy director of the Parliamentary Research Service for four years, he started as a Labour parliamentary researcher after a master’s at Oxford and undergraduate degree at Warwick.
