Snapshot

Labour’s Beth Winter has lived in the constituency of Cynon Valley her entire life. Winter describes herself as a proud Welsh speaker and a keen advocate for the language. She has contributed to local services, working with homeless people, volunteering at a food bank, and helping to run local play activities and youth services. Winter was awarded a doctorate from Swansea University in social exclusion and its effect on older people, and her most recent job was as policy and communications officer for the University and College Union Wales. In 2019, Winter was appointed as PPS to Rachel Reeves, then-shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, although she resigned in September 2020 when she defied the Labour whip and voted against the Overseas Operations Bill alongside 18 other Labour MPs. Winter is on the APPGs for ageing and older people, and for state pension inequality for women. In 2020, she joined the Welsh Affairs Committee. Winter is a member of the APPG for climate change and a passionate campaigner for the cause: three generations of her family participated in the 2019 climate strikes in Senedd.
