Snapshot
Munira Wilson studied French and German at Cambridge before beginning a consultancy career at Ernst & Young. She switched to work for the Liberal Democrats in 2004, serving a stint in Nick Clegg’s parliamentary office in 2006. After this, Wilson worked at the charities Save the Children and Beating Bowel Cancer. She then returned to the private sector taking up senior roles at Novartis in 2009 and Merck Group in 2016, interrupted by just 14 months working at NHS Digital. Wilson has lived in Twickenham since 2005 and was a councillor for Twickenham West ward on Richmond upon Thames London Borough Council from 2006 to 2010. She was a passionate anti-Brexit campaigner, in a correspondingly pro-Remain seat. In part influenced by her constituency’s position on a flight path to Heathrow, Wilson has opposed plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport stating that the Liberal Democrats are “absolutely 100 per cent opposed to Heathrow expansion”. Wilson converted to Christianity as an adult, having been raised to Pakistani parents as a Muslim. In 2020, Wilson was appointed as Liberal Democrat spokesperson for health, wellbeing and social care.
