He initially worked for UBS as a trader in Foreign Exchange Options, but later moved to Kleinwort Benson, where he progressed to become associate director and eventually became a manager in Commerzbank’s Foreign Exchange Department. He became the MP for Leominster in 2001, reclaiming the seat for the Conservatives after the incumbent Peter Temple-Morris had defected to the Labour Party. Following his election, he joined the Welsh Affairs Committee and the Transport, Local Government and The Regions Committee. In 2002, he additionally joined the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee and in 2003 was appointed shadow environment minister and shadow Welsh secretary. He became an opposition whip in 2009 and at the 2010 election became MP for the new constituency of North Herefordshire. Wiggin is a proud Brexit supporter and chairs the Committee of Selection, as well as being a member of the Liaison Committee.
