Snapshot

Alexander Stafford, the Conservative member for Rother Valley, grew up in Ealing and had a musical childhood as Head Chorister of the Ealing Abbey Choir and as a member of the Ealing Youth Orchestra. He studied History at Oxford, and has since had a varied career including working for Parliament, the WWF, and Shell. He has also served as an Ealing councillor. Stafford was a determined supporter of Leave in 2016, and hopes this will help him represent a strongly vote-leave constituency, along with his family from the area. His current majority is 6,318. Stafford takes a particular interest in transport issues and, in foreign policy terms, the status of Syria. The MP from another party he most admires is Sarah Champion, and Stafford has said social media has made politics more accessible to his constituents. Stafford has recently campaigned in favour of a “Net Zero Northern Powerhouse”, arguing that his constituency could become the centre of “Britain’s Hydrogen Valley.” He told the Yorkshire Post: “The potential for a hydrogen revolution in South Yorkshire to rival the coal industry is immensely exciting.” The 2019 intake MP is a major proponent of the government’s so-called Levelling Up agenda — and hopes his constituency may be one of its beneficiaries.
