Snapshot

Holly Mumby-Croft won Scunthorpe in the 2019 general election on her second attempt, with majority of 6,451, having failed to unseat Labour’s Nic Dakin two years earlier. In doing so, she became the first Conservative to win the seat since its creation in 1997 and the first to represent the area since 1987. She is an experienced local politician, having joined Broughton Town Council at the age of 24. She became deputy mayor the following year and in 2013 was became the town’s youngest-ever mayor. In 2015, she moved to North Lincolnshire Council representing Broughton and Appleby and chaired the council’s Health Scrutiny Panel. She has spoken of the need to keep Scunthorpe’s steel industry strong and wants to see the town develop a big green energy industry. In 2020, she was one of only five members of her party to vote for the proposed extension of free school meals in school holidays, a motion put forward by the opposition.
