Snapshot
With a successful career in small business, James Morris is Conservative MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis. A committed ‘small-c’ conservative, Morris has voted with the party line on the majority of issues but has demonstrated strong opposition to same-sex marriage in contrast to the majority of his colleagues. On election in 2010, Morris joined the Communities and Local Government Committee. He has also served as parliamentary private secretary to Esther McVey and is currently lord commissioner at HM Treasury, as well as sitting on the Committee of Selection. Morris has strong local ties and an interest in decentralisation. Before he was elected, Morris was chief executive of the think tank Localis, an organisation that focuses on promoting neo-localist ideas. He has also worked as director of the innovative campaign group Mind the Gap and as the founding director of the London Policy Institute. The 2017 snap general election brought Morris a healthy 11.8 per cent majority and 51.9 per cent of the vote, which he was able to increase again in 2019, with a vote share of 61% and a majority exceeding 12,000.
