Snapshot

Damien Moore won his Southport seat for the Conservatives in 2017, taking it from the Liberal Democrats who had held it since 1997. Following a career in retail – including as a senior manager at Asda – Moore was a councillor and deputy leader of the Conservative grouping on Preston City Council, having been elected in 2010 to represent the Greyfriars ward. Moore was a committed Brexiter, though he cited the Irish backstop as his main concern, describing the clause as enabling the UK to leave the EU with “one foot in, one foot out”. He supported Boris Johnson’s bid to lead the Conservatives in 2019, calling him a “leader who can convey our Conservative message in glorious technicolour calling Jeremy Corbyn to account”. He has served on the Petitions and the Science and Technology Committees, as well as chairing a number of All-Party Parliamentary Groups including those concerned with blockchain, Tunisia, Belgium and Luxembourg. Moore is the first openly gay MP to represent his constituency and is an advocate for LGBT rights, including equal marriage. He has recently expressed support for The Northern Research Group, advocating for increased funding and infrastructure in the north.
