Snapshot
Brexiter and TV cameo-maker Michael Fabricant is unafraid to speak his mind. In 2012, he called for a union between UKIP and the Conservative Party. After joining parliament, Fabricant was made PSP to the financial secretary to the Treasury for a year and sat on the European legislation; home affairs and culture, media and sport committees. He was chairman of the information committee. Fabricant was made a frontbench spokesperson on trade and industry and later on economic affairs. He served as an opposition whip for four years before being made lord commissioner to the Treasury between 2010 and 2012. He was vice chairman of the Conservative Party until 2014 before resigning after tweeting “about time” upon Maria Miller’s cabinet resignation. Fabricant came out as bisexual on Celebrity First Dates. He is a staunch eurosceptic, memorably yelling “bollocks” in a disagreement with Jonathan Djanogly over predictions of economic losses post-Brexit. In 2018, Fabricant shared a since-deleted tweet depicting Sadiq Khan in a sex act with a pig: he was subsequently accused of Islamophobia. He underwent treatment for prostate cancer, highlighting the shortage of NHS specialists. Fabricant has been on the administration committee since 2009.
