A lifelong resident of Vale of Clywd, James Davies can trace back his ancestry there for seven generations. With an original career as a GP, Davies developed a specialism in dementia care. He entered politics as a councillor on Prestatyn Council in 2004, serving for 11 years. Initially elected as an MP in 2015, Davies subsequently lost his seat in 2017, only to regain it in 2019. He has been focused on social and health care, influencing government policy in relation to obesity. Davies is a member of the British Medical Association, the Royal College of GPs and the Real Ale Society. He is on the 1922 executive committee. In 2020, Davies was criticised for bringing up the new North Wales filming location of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! during a coronavirus focused PMQs. Since 2020, he has been a member of the Statutory Instruments (Joint) Committee, the Statutory Instruments (Select) Committee and the Health and Social Care Committee. He has previously sat on the Welsh Affairs Committee (from 2015 to 2017).
