Snapshot

Before entering politics, Cameron worked as a clinical psychologist in the NHS. Following the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, Cameron joined the SNP. Since her election to parliament, Cameron has held many roles in committees and has chaired APPGs on Chile and Psychology. In 2019, she voted against decriminalising abortion in Northern Ireland, which, she states, resulted in her receiving hundreds of abusive messages. Cameron expressed fears that she might be deselected as a result, stating “abusive party activists” would “make sure” she would be unable to continue in her seat. She was re-elected at the 2019 general election with a much increased majority of 13,322 and is the SNP shadow spokesperson for mental health. She expects the impact of COVID-19 on disabled communities to become a frontline political issue in the coming years, linking this to her work as chair of the APPG on Disability. She has also worked to raise the profile of disabled people as a member of the international development select committee.
