An intellectual property litigation partner in Venner Shipley’s legal services team, James Tumbridge has extensive experience in commercial litigation, intellectual property and alternative dispute resolution. He is know for advising MPs and Ministers on data protection, intellectual property and trade.  Following a career which has included stints as head of litigation and intellectual property in London for Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, Tumbridge joined Venner Shipley LLP in 2016. Parallel to his legal practice, Tumbridge was a councillor chairing the Policy & Resources Committee on Brentwood Borough Council (2016-2021) and has been a common councilman for the City of London Corporation (since 2009). His practice has covered a variety of issues including time as a lawyer in Canada and the USA.  He is known for his work on compliance for political campaigns as well as on data protection and anti-bribery. He has advised UK MPs and MEPs on intellectual property issues and has a sub-specialism in election law. A qualified arbitrator & mediator, Tumbridge spent two years chairing the International Trademark Association’s ADR Committee and its mediation panel. He is chairman of Police Tribunals and has published several books on intellectual property.
