Huawei representatives faced a Brussels court this week, accused of corruption and money laundering linked to their lobbying efforts in the EU. As the investigation unfolds, it could reshape how foreign entities operate within European institutions.

Belgian prosecutors have charged five individuals in connection with this scheme. Among the suspects are a Huawei lobbyist, a senior executive, and a procurement manager, identified as Han W. and Valerio O. Additionally, a managing director from Forum Europe faces charges of active corruption involving a person holding public office in an organisation governed by public international law. Forum Europe has declined to comment on the matter. The European Parliament has responded by suspending access to its premises for Huawei lobbyists as a precautionary measure. A parliamentary spokesperson stated that this decision aims to safeguard the integrity of legislative processes amid the ongoing investigation. Huawei has expressed its commitment to legal compliance, asserting a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. The company emphasised its dedication to adhering to all applicable laws and regulations. As the investigation progresses, it is likely to have significant implications for EU-China relations and the operations of foreign entities within Europe....
