The Northern Ireland Executive’s minister for communities, Hargey gained her Stormont cabinet post in January 2020. The Sinn Fein politician was Lord Mayor of Belfast from 2019 to 2020, entering the nation’s assembly as a member for Belfast South at the same time that she joined the cabinet. Hargey has a popular Twitter following and recently changed her profile picture to a Palestine flag, in solidarity with the people of Gaza amid the recent conflict.
