Lesley Griffiths is a former secretary and constituency assistant to successive MPs for Wrexham. She joined the Senedd in 2007 and has since held numerous cabinet positions including deputy minister for science, innovation and skills, and minister for health and social services; for local government and government business; and finally for communities and tackling poverty. In 2016, Griffiths was promoted to cabinet secretary for environment and rural affairs. In 2017, the portfolio was revised to be energy, planning and rural affairs. Notably, Griffiths used her ministerial office to overturn the decision of a planning inspector to refuse a wind farm near Llandrindod Wells. Griffiths became Trefnydd of the Senate in 2021.
