As Revolut's Head of UK Government affairs, Rory Tanner's mission is to help CEO Francesca Carlesi grow the $75 billion financial app to 25 million customers. He tells us how he plans to do it.

Rory Tanner first encountered Westminster politics as an intern working in the office of Maria Caulfield MP through the Catholic Bishops’ Conference internship programme. He later became Senior Parliamentary Assistant to Stephen Crabb MP, gaining an early insight into the rhythms of parliamentary life and the way policy is shaped inside Westminster. “It was a brilliant way to learn how Westminster really works,” he recalls. But the experience also convinced him that influencing politics from outside Parliament might ultimately be more appealing than standing for office himself.

“When I worked in the Commons, jerk chicken was the weekly ritual. You know it’s good when they’re printing the recipe out as handouts.”

Today Tanner operates at the intersection of technology, finance and politics as Head of UK Government Affairs at Revolut, the global fintech company that has grown rapidly from a start-up payments app into one of the most prominent challengers to traditional banking. Founde...
