Jeremy Miles is a former international media lawyer, now counsel general, Brexit minister and minister in charge of the coronavirus response. Prior to being elected, he had volunteered as a youth mentor with the Young Foundation, and also as an adviser at free legal advice centres. A member of GMB and Unite, Miles was elected chair of the Co-operative Group of Senedd Members in 2016. In 2018, he introduced draft legislation to create a codified statute book of Welsh law designed to improve accessibility for lawyers and the general public. Miles campaigned for voting rights for 16 and 17 year olds in Welsh elections and endorsed Mark Drakeford’s bid for First Minister. He was given the cabinet portfolios of education and the Welsh Language in May 2021.
