The chief executive of the Grammar School Heads Association (GSHA) since September 2019, Mark Fenton replaced longtime office holder Jim Skinner. Fenton was headteacher of Dr Challoner’s Grammar School in Amersham for 15 years, and in his current role represents 152 of the UK’s 163 grammar school heads. The aims of the GSHA include strengthening regional and national links between grammars as well as making the case for member schools’ interests. Fenton recently opposed the inclusion of the eleven-plus exam within the National Pupil Database, arguing it was “meaningless and would invite wholly misleading comparisons” with non-selective schools.
