Mike Buchanan founded educational consultancy Positively Leading in 2018 after vacating the helm of the Headmasters and Headmistresses’ Conference. Before setting up the firm, Buchanan established three state-funded schools, served as trustee of a children’s charity and mentored school leaders for over a decade. From 2018 to 2020, he was executive director of the English speaking world’s oldest association of Head Teachers, having previously chaired the organisation for three years. Ever the busy educationalist, Buchanan also chairs the multi-academy trust Turner Schools and is executive head of Apex2100, the world’s leading school for elite skiers. Since 2019, he has been chair of the International Positive Education Network for the UK and Europe.
