As chief of staff to deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner, Parrott is the most powerful Labour aide the public has never heard of. He worked for several of the party’s brightest prospects in the 2017 to 2019 parliament, but was most notably the éminence grise in Angela Rayner’s operation – writing her speeches and plotting her media interventions, a role he now does on a formal basis. He is part of yet another political power couple, as he is married to Lisa Johnson of the GMB trade union. Parrott also has a union background himself, having worked as national head of operations for Unite during the 2015 election.
