Ben Nunn’s predecessor as Labour’s director of communications, ex-Guardian comment writer Seumas Milne, was thought to have been chosen more for his political views rather than media nous. But Nunn, a “nice guy” PR man, studied political science before starting his career in healthcare PR, and knows how journalists tick much better than his predecessor. Nunn’s centre-left politics align nicely with his boss Keir Starmer’s, yet it’s his comms experience that will be called on to reshape the voice of the Labour Party as they attempt to cast off the shackles of Corbynism and go forth towards the battle royale that will be the 2024 general election.
