A key aide to Alok Sharma both at the Department for International Development and now at the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy department, Adkins has been put in charge of preparations for COP26, the globally important UN Climate Change Conference in November, which will take place in Glasgow. Previously a senior press officer in Conservative headquarters, Adkins worked with legendary operations Spad Richard ‘Tricky’ Jackson under the May administration, getting the prime minister from event to event without incident. Adkins was also one of six close aides who stood outside Number Ten when Mrs May announced she was resigning in May 2019.
