Craig Williams

The Conservative MP Craig Williams was born and raised in his seat of Montgomeryshire. After studying at the University of Birmingham his career has been devoted to politics, beginning in 2006 with his role as a policy and political advisor to the then Leader of the Opposition in the Senedd, Nick Bourne (now Lord Bourne). He became a Cardiff County councillor for seven years from June 2008, the final three years spent chairing the Economy and Culture Scrutiny Committee. In the 2015 election, Williams was elected as MP for Cardiff North, and served as parliamentary private secretary to the chief secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke, for one year. He also served on the Scottish and Welsh Affairs Select Committees. He voted to remain within the EU in 2016, but became a special adviser to Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay in 2019. He was elected to his current seat of Montgomeryshire in 2019 and his majority is 12,138; in this role he has served as parliamentary private secretary to the chief secretary to the Treasury, Stephen Barclay. He is currently a member of the European Statutory Instruments Committee and the International Trade Committee.
