David Warburton was first elected as the Conservative MP for Somerton and Froome in 2015, taking the seat from the Liberal Democrats on an 18 per cent swing and with a majority of 20,268. Warburton spent his early adult years working as a cleaner, a sandwich vendor and a shop assistant, whilst singing and playing the guitar in a series of rock-bands. He went on to gain an Octavia Scholarship to the Royal College of Music (RCM) and has won countless prizes and honours as a freelance composer. He became well-known for developing downloadable mobile phone ringtones, founding The Music Solution Ltd in 1999. He is also the co-founder of MyHighStreet, an online platform for local businesses to sell their products. Warburton began working for the Conservative Party in 2009 when he became treasurer of Wells Conservative Association, before becoming its constituency spokesperson. In parliament, he has campaigned to improve train links, equality in education, and access to broadband in rural areas. He has sat on the European Scrutiny Committee on two occasions and voted Leave in the 2016 referendum. He maintained a strong majority of 19,213 at the 2019 election.
