Amanda Solloway

Born in Nottingham, the Conservative MP Amanda Solloway has been the member for Derby North since 2015, when she succeeded the incumbent Labour MP, Chris Williamson. She then lost her seat back to Williamson in 2017, among Labour’s gains, however won it back in 2019. Upon first entering parliament, she joined the Business Committee, and became parliamentary private secretary to International Development Minister Rory Stewart. Before entering the House of Commons, she worked in retail management for Sainsbury’s and Baird Clothing for a number of years, as well as in HR for charities Help the Aged and Save the Children, before working as an independent management consultant and coach, which she has done since 2009. She is currently parliamentary under-secretary for science, research and innovation at the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and has campaigned on issues such as for the clean-carbon benefits of fusion energy power plants, as well as mental health and homelessness. She was one of three parliamentary champions for the controversial HS2 high-speed rail network. She voted to remain in 2016 and her majority in the seat is 4,331.
