Jerome Mayhew

Jerome Mayhew is the son of Lord Mayhew, who served in the cabinets of Margaret Thatcher and John Major as Attorney General and Northern Ireland Secretary. Mayhew trained as a Barrister after graduating from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in politics, and joined Temple Garden Chambers for 11 years in 1995. As a barrister, he specialised in personal injury and professional negligence. In 2006, he joined Go Ape!, the popular outdoor adventure company, which was founded by his brother and sister-in-law. In 2009, he became the managing director, a role he would hold for 10 years. Recently, Mayhew has involved himself in a local agricultural company, learning about farming and the opportunities of green energy for the Norfolk region. Following this research, he joined the environmental audit committee in 2020. That year, he was one of the 20 Conservative MPs who wrote to the Labour Party leader Keir Starmer and Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham to pressure them into accepting the Tier 3 restrictions recommended by the Conservative government. Some media outlets – and even a number of Conservative MPs – thought this letter to be “ill-judged”.
