Snapshot
Rebecca Harris is a Conservative whip, lord commissioner of the Treasury and MP for Castle Point. She worked for Phillimore & Co publishers, starting out as a delivery driver and working her way up to become a marketing director. Harris was campaign co-ordinator at the Conservative Central Office between 2000 and 2001 and Conservative North West London area officer until 2008. Before becoming an MP, she was a political adviser to several shadow cabinet members and worked as a caseworker in the House of Commons. On being elected to parliament, Harris joined the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee and later sat on the Committee for Regulatory Reform. During this time she championed the Daylight Savings Bill which aimed to move Britain onto Central European Time. After the 2015 general election she became parliamentary private secretary to Theresa Villiers, then-Northern Ireland Secretary, and the following year to the newly-appointed communities secretary, Sajid Javid. Harris advocated against Britain’s membership of the EU long before the 2016 referendum and has supported all withdrawal agreements. In 2018 she was appointed to her current position and in 2020 joined the Committee of Selection.
