Snapshot

Geraint Davies is founder of firms Pure Crete and Equity Creative. He was leader of Croydon Council before becoming MP for Croydon Central from 1997 to 2005 but lost his seat in 2005 by just 75 votes. He returned to parliament in the relatively safe seat of Swansea West. Davies has published nine Public Member’s Bills, mostly recently in relation to the environment. Davies has been questioned and criticised for his high expenses claims. In 2015, related expenses information was removed from his Wikipedia page (and that of colleagues) by a computer inside parliament. Davies was a vocal supporter of a second EU referendum, and commented on the rising power of the eurosceptic wing of the Conservative party that “soon we may all be flying on board Jacob Rees-Mogg’s time machine back to Charles Dickens’ Britain”. He chairs the APPGs on air pollution and speech and language difficulties. In 2020, he was appointed to four committees: the Panel of Chairs and the environmental audit, Welsh affairs and European scrutiny committees. He has been a critic of Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership and nominated Keir Starmer in the 2020 Labour leadership race.
