Kempock: A straight-talking political advisory firm for organisations navigating devolved government and politics

New Scotland-based consultancy offers independent political judgement, drawing on more than a decade at the heart of devolved politics
Jamie Greene, who served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for over a decade, has launched Kempock, a political advisory firm helping organisations understand and respond to devolved government, parliamentary scrutiny and public policy.
Kempock positions itself deliberately apart from traditional lobbying and public relations firms. Rather than selling access, it offers senior political counsel to organisations facing committee appearances, legislative change, regulatory pressure, media scrutiny and high-risk political exposure, across the public, private and third sectors. The firm also partners with traditional government relations, communications and PR agencies, complementing their client offering rather than competing with it.
During his time at Holyrood, Greene worked directly on legislation, scrutinised ministers and expert witnesses across policy areas including justice, education, transport, digital and public audit, and led and secured Scottish Budget negotiations worth more than £300 million, supporting sectors such as colleges, hospitality and tourism, social care and young entrepreneurship. He was named "Debater of the Year" at The Herald's Scottish Politician of the Year awards, and appeared regularly across national television, radio and print media.
"Losing an election is a very public way to reach a turning point"
"Losing an election is a very public way to reach a turning point," said Greene. "But it gave me the chance to build something of my own — and to put more than a decade of hard-won political experience to work for the organisations that need it most. Most organisations experience politics from the outside looking in. Kempock helps them see it from the inside looking out."
On devolution, he said: "Many agencies and organisations feel devolved government and politics is far from their core knowledge. But governance no longer begins and ends in Westminster and Whitehall. Decisions that matter are increasingly made far from corporate HQs — and devolution brings both risks and opportunities. My job is to offer no-nonsense advice, when it matters."

On the firm's positioning, Greene added: "This isn't lobbying and it isn't PR. It's straight-talking political advice from someone who has actually been in the room. Organisations don't always need a strategy document or jargon-laden theory; they often just need someone at the end of the phone who will tell them what they really think — what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. That's why I set up Kempock: to help people get devolved politics right, and to face the political maelstrom when they most need it."
The firm takes its name from the Kempock Stone in Gourock, on the banks of the Clyde on the west coast of Scotland. It was a landmark that sailors historically circled before setting out to sea, seeking safe passage through uncertain waters — a metaphor for today's political maelstrom.
Kempock works with clients on both a proactive basis — political horizon-scanning, stakeholder insight, consultation responses and committee preparation — and reactively, providing rapid counsel when political or reputational pressure arrives without warning. Greene also partners with a wide range of third-party consultants and experts, and expects to work across the agency, private, public, third and commercial sectors....
