Kamala Harris returned to the spotlight with a fierce speech condemning Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office, slamming his tariffs, immigration policies, and governance as reckless and dangerous. She called on Americans to resist fear, defend democracy, and reclaim power: “It belongs to us. It belongs to we the people.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a forceful speech on Wednesday night, marking her return to the national political stage. Addressing the 20th anniversary gala of Emerge America, Harris sharply criticized President Donald Trump's administration, accusing it of abandoning American ideals and steering the nation toward a constitutional crisis. Harris condemned the administration's economic policies, particularly the implementation of sweeping tariffs. She described these measures as "reckless" and argued that they have led to increased consumer prices, shrinking retirement accounts, and job losses, effectively "inviting a recession." The former vice president also criticized the administration's approach to governance, characterising it as a deliberate effort to dismantle public institutions. "What we are experiencing right now is exactly what they envision for America," she said. "A narrow, self-serving vision where they punish truth-tellers, favor loyalists, cash in on their power, and leave everyone else to fend for themselves." Highlighting the administration's immigration policies, Harris condemned the deportation of individuals without due process, citing the case of a Maryland resident mistakenly deported to El Salvador. She praised judges who uphold the rule of law and universities that resist unconstitutional demands, urging Americans to "counter fear with courage." In a poignant moment, Harris referenced a viral video of elephants uniting during an earthquake, using it as a metaphor for solidarity in times of crisis. "We must stand together, protect one another, and remember that courage is contagious," she said. While Harris did not announce any future political plans, speculation abounds regarding a potential gubernatorial run in California or another presidential bid in 2028. Her speech, however, focused on rallying opposition to Trump's agenda rather than personal ambition. Concluding her address, Harris emphasized the importance of civic engagement. "This country is ours. It doesn't belong to whoever is in the White House. It belongs to you. It belongs to us. It belongs to we the people," she declared, urging Americans to remain vigilant and active in defending democratic values. ...
