Tom Anelay has been appointed as director of corporate affairs at law firm Setfords, as the business looks to “raise its profile beyond the legal sector”. Anelay joins from PR agency Citypress, where he has led the agency’s public affairs division since June 2024. Prior to this, he held senior roles at Trafalgar Strategy and Grayling. While at the latter agency, Anelay appeared in PRWeek UK’s 30 Under 30. During this time, he led the UK work of Grayling’s Brexit unit and served as a senior adviser in the firm’s crisis team, guiding clients through public inquiries, government reviews, court cases, select committee hearings, factory closures and redundancies. In his new role, Anelay will oversee Setfords’ communications strategy across media relations, stakeholder engagement, public policy and internal communications. The law firm operates via a platform model, with more than 650 lawyers working as independent consultants under a shared brand. Last year, it was named the fastest-growing firm in The Lawyer’s Top 100, having reported revenue of £67m in its most recent financial year. According to Codex Edge, a technology company and talent data provider specialising in the legal market, Setfords is the UK’s largest fee-share law firm. Anelay will report to chief growth officer George Reynolds, while working closely with co-chief executives Guy and Chris Setford. Reynolds said: “Tom’s experience positioning businesses in highly regulated markets is exactly what we need. We’ve built the UK’s largest fee-share law firm and spent 10 years developing the technology and data infrastructure that powers it. Now we need someone who can help us tell that story to the audiences that matter.” Anelay responded: “I’m looking forward to helping the firm bring that story to a wider audience.” Citypress have confirmed that leadership of its public affairs division has been taken over by Alex Burchill. Burchill began his career at FleishmanHillard and most recently served as a senior director in FTI Consulting’s international campaigns team, before leaving a year ago to take a career break.
