Crisis Scotland hires ex-Lib Dem housing spokesperson

Paul McGarry has been appointed media and public affairs manager at Crisis Scotland, having just started in his new role.

Reporting to the charity’s head of policy and communications, Maeve McGoldrick, McGarry will be responsible for raising the public and political profile of homelessness in Scotland and building support for Crisis Scotland’s work.

He will lead the charity’s media and public affairs functions, including engaging with MSPs and committees at Holyrood and ensuring the voices of people with lived experience of homelessness are heard by decision makers.

McGarry is a long-standing Scottish Liberal Democrat activist and former housing and homelessness spokesperson for the party. He also stood as a Scottish Lib Dem candidate in this year’s Scottish Parliament elections.

He has first-hand experience of the issues he will be working on, having experienced homelessness himself at the age of 16.

Commenting on his appointment, McGarry told In.Comms: “I’m delighted to be joining Crisis Scotland as their media and public affairs manager. Having experienced homelessness myself as a young person, the work of the organisation is very close to my heart.”

He added: “I look forward to working with the team at Crisis on their media and public affairs work, including their campaign to end homelessness in Scotland by 2040, to ensure that everyone has a safe place to call home.”
