New 'global investor visa' proposed by lobby group as UK struggles to attract the super-rich

With London now lagging behind European cities as a wealth capital, lobby group Foreign Investors for Britain (FIFB) is proposing a ‘global investor visa’ to catch the UK up to its economic neighbours. FIFB proposes a visa with an annual fee of £200,000, requiring a minimum UK investment of £2.5 million in the first year. In the global context, the population of “ultra-high-net-worth individuals” has experienced a significant boom in the past five years, according to a new wealth report produced by estate agency Knight Frank. This population, whose assets are at or in excess of $30 million, has swelled from 551,435 to a record 713,626 in this period due to the tech boom.
