Sadiq Khan’s ambitious London Growth Plan aims to supercharge the capital’s economy with a £107bn boost, 150,000 new jobs, and major infrastructure upgrades—but critics warn of political and financial roadblocks.

In a strategic move to invigorate London’s economic landscape, London's Mayor Sadiq Khan has introduced the London Growth Plan, targeting a £107 billion boost to the city’s economy by 2035. This initiative aims to elevate annual productivity growth to 2 per cent, a significant increase from the 0.12 per cent average observed between 2008 and 2022. Khan claims this could result in an additional £11,000 in pre-tax income per Londoner and generate £27.5 billion in tax revenue by the target year. Unveiled at Imperial College London’s South Kensington campus, the plan emphasises the development of key “industrial innovation corridors” across the capital. A notable example is the WestTech Corridor, anchored by Imperial’s hubs in South Kensington, Paddington Life Sciences, White City Innovation District, and Old Oak and Park Royal.
