The 61st Munich Security Conference (MSC) commenced today, February 14, 2025, at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich, Germany. The annual gathering has long been a pivotal forum for international leaders to deliberate on pressing global security issues but this year's conference is particularly significant, given the ongoing geopolitical tensions and the evolving dynamics of international alliances. The conference opened with remarks from MSC Chairman Christoph Heusgen, followed by a keynote speech from German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. President Steinmeier emphasized the importance of unity and resilience in the face of current global challenges. A central theme of this year's MSC is the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
