He shoots, he scores! Ex-Newcastle striker gets senior comms role

One of Newcastle United’s longest serving players has been selected to head up corporate affairs for Newcastle United.

Newcastle United have appointed former striker Shola Ameobi as the club’s new head of corporate affairs. Ameobi has moved into the position from his previous role as the club’s loans coordinator, which he held for seven years. During his 14-year career as a Magpie, he scored 79 goals in 397 senior appearances. As part of the communications department, his new role will involve working closely with senior leadership across the club to support engagement with civic leaders, regulatory bodies, commercial partners and former players. Lee Marshall, director of media and communications at Newcastle United, said: “Shola is an outstanding fit for this new role. His contribution on the pitch is already well known, having made almost 400 appearances for the club, but his journey since retiring is just as impressive.” Ameobi was part of the first cohort of the Premier League Executive Pathway Scheme in 2023 and completed a master’s degree in strategic leadership at Newcastle University in Decembe...
